Weekend Workshop

I've had a few enquiries about running a weekend workshop....and when I say a few enquiries I mean just that...3 enquiries in total.

I've done a lot of seminars for different sporting organisations on different elements of training but it was always just bits and pieces.

I just want to put this out there for discussion and see what people think.

I was thinking of picking a weekend in the not too distant future (prior to Christmas but not this month) and running a workshop for those that were interested.

I've always said I could teach people 90% of what they ACTUALLY need to be able to do my job in a weekend and I thought that maybe we could put that to the test.

This is what I think the format should be....but am open to suggestions:
Day 1
Screening and Assessment - This would be a chance to go through in detail and explain the various movement screens and assessments that I use and what can be taken from them.
Testing - I'll detail the testing procedure and reasoning behind the tests that are used. We'll actually do a full fitness test on the day so all the participants can experience it for themselves.
Exercises - This will be a chance to go through all the major movements and address all the key coaching points as well as a chance to look at the modifications and adjustments needed for different athletes.

Day 2
Programming - This will be a chance to put everything into to practice. To discuss all the elements of programming and how they are integrated.

Now...what will make this day different. It will be hands on. Not only will it be a chance to work with other attendees but we'll also work with ACTUAL athletes. It won't be a talk fest. What I would hope is that we'd get a good few attendees and I can have a proper lunch provided as well as dinner and drinks on Saturday evening.

I just wanted to get this out there and get some feedback and see what people think of the idea...if there's zero to no interest that's fine as well...I still keep crapping on here on the blog. I just thought it would be a good chance for me to have to 'put it all together' and a chance for people to attend one of these type of seminars and actually walk away and be able to put things into practice straight away.

Sounds like a great idea. Im definitely coming if the price is not to high and I can take time of work. What type and how attendees are you aiming for? The size of the group and the skill level could make a difference between a okay weekend and a great weekend. Im personally interested in your hands on coaching as well as the programming part.

I'm probably going so...you know the skill level won't be that high

Will I'd love to do this but please don't do it before Christmas. The coach/student/promoter/husband/father thing is particularly heavy up to December.

I like January though. And since I'll have a major fight in March, I'd volunteer myself as your guinea pig.

Damn I was hoping you wasn't going! :)

I did a weekend coaching seminar with Will in Utah and the only things I learned were to hide my Guinness from Will and Will created the term "manotaur".

Of course it is...I came up with it.

How about this...we'll work out the numbers regarding who's coming...so I can work out how much the food and the presentation room with cost...we'll divide that up...I won't charge anything for the seminar at all...I'll let people decide when they get home what they think it was worth and the can send me a donation if they want...and if they don't want to that'll be fine as well. Does that sound fair?

What type and how attendees are you aiming for?
I'm going to invite sports science and athletic therapy and training students, I'll send an email to the GAA, Rugby and Basketball development officers and will post the details on the blog.

The size of the group and the skill level could make a difference between a okay weekend and a great weekend.
As you can see above...a huge number of coaches and students will be invited so I'm currently expecting 2-3 attendees.

I'm personally interested in your hands on coaching as well as the programming part.
I'm going to make attendees write actual programs...we'll run through them in the gym and I'm going to tear them to pieces and explain what I would do. I want this seminar to be about what I do...it is not going to be a Siff says this and Zatsiorsky says that kind of thing. I'll present case studies...show you the actual athlete...we'll look at their testing results, their programs and their actual training diaries. I'll show you why and how I did what I did.

It's good that you are going to come because it will make everyone else realise that they know so much more than they thought.

You're screwed then because it is likely to be November/December.

We might still do that...depending on whether the weekend is well recieved or goes down like a lead balloon.

Don't be like that...that's my job.

Those vids will only be for the inner circle.

It's nice to know that I contributed something to society.

AHAHAHAHAH

You know i like to help. Besides, you wouldn't need me for that, the presenter himself will achieve that glorious task

you should do a webinar . . . then people like me who are stuck at the arse end of the world can learn something too :(

Sounds GREAT Will! I can make most weekends apart from the 22-23th of november, so anything but that would work fine.

although i agree with kira that you should hold a webinar i have to say that austalia is definetley not on the arse end of the world for the simple fact we are getting glorious weather while will and the rest of you are getting shitted on by the rough winter.

I do hope that the day turns out well though

Oh my god will should do the 180 kg bench on the day that would be total awesomeness .... as long as he posted it on the interweb for us to critque.

Sorry Adrieni, I wasn't referring to Australia as being the arse end of the world . . . I was referring to Tasmania ;)

ah well than i have to agree. At least about the east side the west side is too beautiful to be considered anything like an arse.

Would be interested in coming over to Ireland either before Xmas or after, if it's early December that would be good otherwise most of January would be good- I might be going to Galway in January to do a talk on fat loss so I can at least reciprocate an invite. Let me know the dates you are planning as soon as possible so I can take the time!

I would definately be interested in a seminar like this but I'm struggling to make it before Christmas.

If all goes well and Will makes plans for another next year then I'm in...assuming I get the all clear from she who must be obeyed.

I hope you get the numbers Will and it all goes to plan.

I'll make a decision either way come the end of the month on a date. I'll open it up for people to commit to for a week...if we get 10 people together it'll go ahead and if not I'll pull the pin for the time being and revisit it in the New Year.

I suggest you do your best to discourage as many people as possible from saying they'll come before Xmas then...it shouldn't be too difficult...my personality or lack there of should do most of the work for you.

We'll wait and see then...the response has been pretty underwhelming so far.
