Testing Day

Yesterday afternoon and evening was a testing day

There were a lot of Personal Best performances and a fair few surprises...particularly for me.

I have to finish collating all the data but will update this post to make a few honourable mentions.

It was good to see a a few 20+ pull ups, 70+ push ups, 40+ inverted rows scores....never seen so many on a single testing day. So more to follow on this.

I saw this in today's Irish Independent

Leo Cullen lifts team-mate Brian O'Driscoll during Leinster rugby squad training yesterday

It looked so familiar....

Sort of like this...I mean I've got higher quality rugby players and athletes...obviously...but it's good to see the Leinster lads catching up.

While I'm at it I'd also like to thank all those Leinster, Rotherham and Clontarf strength and conditioning coaches. They deserve a lot of credit and have made me job so much easier. I mean between them they've all had Chops for years and years but none of them interfered with my future work by ever getting Chops strong enough to do a single Pull Up and by so doing didn't allow him to develop any bad habits...his personal best up till this year was 0...last night he did 8. Chops and I should really have done a DVD...0-8 Pull Ups in 4 months...but yet I still hear that a few people in one of those particular professional organisations mentioned above still don't think I've a clue what I'm talking about....maybe I'll send them Chops and my DVD for free.

Below is previously unseen footage of Chops first test.

Don't blink or you'll miss it

Attention: Mum & Nan please do not watch this video...it contains crude and vulgar language which you'll find as objectionable as I do.

This was from the 22nd of July

This is from yesterday the 23rd of September

But as I've said before...I really love that so many people think I'm wrong or that my ideas are rubbish....because if all the idiotic and moronic strength and conditioning coaches and personal trainers out there agreed with me I'd have to throw myself off a power rack onto a plate tree and die a horrible and unsightly death. So here's to me always being wrong and continuing to get great results.

Will, what do you think about this statement from Poliquin? "I tell people who get certified by me that if they can't get a female to do 12 chin-ups in 12 weeks, then they don't know how to train. That's how you can evaluate a good trainer"

Charles Poliquin is in large part full of crap.

Like a lot of coaches...he has some good stuff to say but that is just a completely bullshit statement.

In response I'd say...if Charles is so great how come so many people in the industry that DID actually get certified by him would never ever mention the fact these days?

Email Alwyn Cosgrove or Joe DeFranco just to name two off the top of my head as ask if doing their Poliquin certification taught them how to get a female athlete to do 12 chin ups in 12 weeks? While your at it ask them why they wouldn't ever mention the fact that they are Poliqin certified?

Random stuff i think about right now: How come you know Alwyn's done the poliquin certification? :)How come you've put Alwyn up as a "item of interest"? Also, how come you have linked to Eric C's page but he hasnt linked to yours?

Well whatever... =) Good to have you back blogging will!

Because I'm friends with Alwyn.

Because I think he does have a lot of good stuff...if I was as good at the 'business' side of this business I'd be as well know as he is because I think I have the technical side pretty well locked down now. It has been years now since I've had an athlete at any level that hasn't ended up better for meeting and working with me. The reason that so many people hate me is 1. Because I don't have problem saying that and 2. Any one that actually knows me or has worked with me knows that it's true and a lot of them hate that fact as well.

Also, how come you have linked to Eric C's page but he hasnt linked to yours?

Send him an email and ask him...I'm friends with Eric as well...I know this as a fact because it says so on Facebook...I don't think many of the coaches that know me would link to me because I think everyone knows from years of experience that I don't say what I'm 'supposed' to say. Actually do that....send him an email and ask him why the hell he doesn't link to me? I mean we all know that they read the blog: http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/entertainment/step_up/index.php/2008/05/13/exercises-you-should-be-doing-prone-plate-switches/

Well whatever... =) Good to have you back blogging will!

As you well know...I love to blog and anytime I have the time to I do...I had my first session at 7am this morning and just got off the phone with Vinny O'Keffe the coach of the Irish Superleague Basketball team the DCU Saints at a couple of minutes before 11pm...I don't give a shit what you do....unless you own a 7/11 and work there from open till close there aren't many people that have a longer working day then me. I'm not complaining about that...I love it. The fact remains that I don't get much time to blog. Come over Joel and you can see for yourself and every time that you here that I've gone broke or that the gym is empty or people complain about me not updating the blog you can tell them why in my absence.

Okay, so I was watching Chops do his pullups . . .

Have you trained him to be 'jerky' like that for a reason?

When I do my pullups it sort of feels pretty fluid from full extension to chin over the bar. . . should I be trying to be more 'explosive' in the bottom range of the pullup?

Or is chops just movement challenged?

And another question (sorry for being greedy) . . . have you noticed any significant 'on field' improvements with Chops that you think is directly linked to his strength and conditioning gains?

No.

No...although we do those type of pull ups but that's for other reasons and that's a long story.

Or is chops just movement challenged?

Yes...he's a fat retard.

And another question (sorry for being greedy) . . . have you noticed any significant 'on field' improvements with Chops that you think is directly linked to his strength and conditioning gains?

No...he still does bugger all and basically flops from ruck to ruck. The other day he had to come off because he was 'dizzy'...if you asked me he just had heart trouble...in that he was missing some.

We dont hate you! I know you are busy all the time, ive told you id love to come over and see how you work because I think I would learn ALOT. I have tried to set a date with you several times but with no luck so far. Though when you got 700+ something unread emails I can see why you have a hard time responding :)Im starting to think that maybe it would be best to just pick a date and come visit without notifying you...

Oh and by the way, we are friends on facebook as well, not me and Eric, but you and me. Maybe I should send a friend request to him also, so we to could be "internetbuddies". Though it was you that added me Will! HAH :)

I was just being dramatic...no one really hates me...well except for that guy of FriendsReunited that has listed as his life's goal...To see Will Heffernan dead....I'm pretty sure he hates me.

I think that 'ALOT' may be an over statement.

I'm sure I responded...I know this as I've no unread mails left in my inbox. Plenty of people who read the blog have been for a visit...the next I think is Ian who posts here...he's over for a few days next week or the week after.

Im starting to think that maybe it would be best to just pick a date and come visit without notifying you...

Come any time you like...it'd be best if you make sure I'm in town first though as you might be disappointed otherwise. Anyone who wants to come visit the facility is most welcome.

I'll tell you something that is really funny...more industry 'names' have visited my facility than Irish coaches or trainers. I've had the same coaches and trainers that people pay thousands of euros going to see present in the US come here to Dublin and stay and visit with me....but actually not a single Irish coach or trainer has ever come to my the gym...I'm not sure if that is sad or funny....maybe it's a bit of both. It doesn't worry me either way...I just think it's weird...just shows you how important the marketing side of the business is.

I know...I don't have that many friends there...definitely not so many that I would remember that.

Do that...and when you do you can ask Eric what he thinks of the facility....he's someone that has trained there and stayed with me.

Joel Hallström said...

No you didnt respond, but sweet, I will email you again now.

Yep - I'm over the week after next.

What's with Irish coaches not visiting you in Dublin Will? It reminds me of the comments Alwyn Cosgrove has made about his staff attending presentations in Santa Clarita, CA, where he is based, with no attendance by his competition. I'm not even a coach or trainer but I figure spending time in the company of someone with 20 years coaching experience will advance my training.
