I was asked what a torque press was....so here you go!

The athlete is in his athletic stance...soft in the knees, neutral spine, shoulders back and down. The handle is moved from the torso out to almost arms reach...basically we go all the way till just before lock out and back again. Straight out and straight back...JM has 50lbs of tension on the cable. They perform anything from 8-15 reps depending on ability and have a static hold in the extended position for 30 seconds at the end of each set.

Rather than telling you why I have them do it...go and try it yourself and come back and tell me why I do it.

Interesting. I'm going to give it a shot with bands tonight.

Just tried it with a green band...definitely makes you stabilize your trunk and shoulder girdle simultaneously to get it straight out and back without whipping you around.

Good work. Basically I have people do it to build up their strength resisting rotation just as you discovered.

Yeah, the rotation aspect was clear from rep 1. Thanks for putting this up, this is a great blog.

Bri,
No problem and yes, it is a great blog....maybe the greatest blog of all.
